The Feldenkrais Method®, named after the body of work developed by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, is an innovative form of movement education. It’s based on a scientific understanding of the human brain’s capacity to adapt and reorganize itself in response to new experiences.
Feldenkrais® is taught through two modalities. Each supports and supplements the other.
Private Functional Integration® lessons are one-on-one sessions where the practitioner utilizes gentle touch, precisely directed movements and awareness to enhance learning and improve the quality of movement. The lessons can address general well being or can be designed for a specific need—such as reducing tension or pain, improving flexibility and range of motion, preparing for childbirth, helping a special needs child thrive, or enhancing creative expression.
In group Awareness Through Movement® classes, the student is verbally guided through specific movement sequences as their attention is brought to their habits of moving and sensing and how the movements translate through the body. These movements can later be practiced at home so that students can take their learning and well-being into their own hands.
Both approaches enhance awareness. Learning to move with increased awareness enables immediate and long lasting improvements in ease of posture, breathing and movement. Benefits are often experienced in other areas of functioning as well, such as increased flexibility of thought and greater emotional balance.

"I have long been intrigued by this subtle form of retraining the nervous system, which I currently recommend to patients whose movement has been restricted by injury, cerebral palsy, stroke, fibromyalgia, or chronic pain. I find it to be much more useful than standard physical therapy. I also believe that the Feldenkrais Method can help older people achieve greater range of motion, flexibility, and help us all feel more comfortable in our bodies." -Andrew Weil, MD
