Feldenkrais for Children Sessions
The Feldenkrais for Children & Infants sessions are comprised of two components—hands on work done directly with your child and exploring ways for you to work with your child at home.
Working with Your Child
During the first 30-45 minutes of the session, hands on work will be done directly with your child. He or she will experience non-invasive and gentle movements to release any unnecessary tension in the muscles. Then your child will be slowly introduced to larger movement patterns that relate to various motor developmental stages that an infant typically learns during the first nine months of life. These assisted motions stimulate the brain’s innate ability to form neurological pathways that will help your child initiate and improve movement on his own.
Teaching and Empowering Parents:
During the last 15-30 minutes of the session we will explore how you can work with your child at home. You will learn how to observe subtle changes that indicate that your child is integrating and continuing to improve on the new information learned in the session. You will learn how to mindfully touch your child and guide movements between sessions to continue his internal and external growing experiences. You will gain an understanding of how to best interact with your child in a way that will create opportunities for him to generate new movement independently and inspire learning during play at home.
Your Learning Between Sessions:
One of the best things you can do is attend classes or take a series of private sessions yourself. Experiencing the work will help you to better understand your child’s development and help you to work more efficiently with your child yourself.
