The Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Movement Education can offer you the much needed structural and emotional support necessary to navigate the demands of moving into motherhood—from conception to postpartum.
There are few times in life when the body and mind are asked to change more dramatically than during pregnancy and the first postpartum year. During pregnancy you experience daily changes in your body, mind, and emotions. At a physical level the belly is expanding, the bones of the pelvis and ribs are widening, the organs are moving and of course, there is weight gain. At a mental level your brain is responding to a radical shift in hormones and is already preparing you for the psychological and emotional changes necessary to be a thriving, loving mother.
Once your child is born there are even more adjustments to be made. Your body needs time and attention to recover from the labor—from strengthening the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles to simply finding center again. Your brain continues to be flooded with hormones to facilitate bonding and breastfeeding. And with the need to feed, your chest and upper back are constantly reorganizing for the state and weight of the moment.
