Feldenkrais for Infants & Children
In infancy, a child’s nervous system is developing rapidly. From flexing and extending, pushing and reaching, to rolling and crawling—babies progress through patterns of movement that directly inform their developmental organization. Feldenkrais for Children with special needs and extraordinary gifts, can help you to ensure that all of your baby’s developing systems receive the stimulation they need for optimal development from birth until independent walking.
The benefits of Feldenkrais for Children are as profound and personal as the method itself. A healthy child learns motor skills through a prolonged period of personal exploration and discovery that leads to increasingly efficient movement. This exploration is crucial for healthy progression through the various states of motor development.

Below are three wonderful videos that explore some aspect. of the Feldenkrais Method that makes it a powerful approach to working with children with special needs. The woman speaking, Sheryl Field, is one of my mentors and is currently doing research on utilizing the Feldenkrais Method for wide range of children with special needs. NOTE: The first and third videos are NOT the same — they just have the same image.

Is the Feldenkrais Method Right for Your Child
Unfortunately, for some children this natural developmental progression is interrupted by illness, trauma or neurological impairment. The Feldenkrais Method directly assists neurological learning by providing gentle, innovative techniques that allow the nervous system to synthesize and organize the information to produce coordinated movements. Helping the child refine movement awakens his capacity for learning, sensing, thinking and feeling.
For children who have been through a variety of therapeutic interventions which they did not enjoy, the Feldenkrais Method is a revelation. While other therapies tend to “make” the child perform and repeat specific tasks and focus on what is “wrong”, we look for what is possible and provide the child with the developmental building blocks that result in meaningful changes and improvements.
